We had a fabulous XC clinic weekend at Tulip Springs! Kayla Riesberg, Leigh Mesher & I kicked off Saturday morning with some trot & canter sets to get a few horses settled! Mikayla Rebholz on Sherwood & Alex Ahearn on Mai Baum were the first riders to school on Saturday and they did a super job with a few of the more difficult prelim questions. We brought the green horses out for some lungeing over XC jumps. Erica Reagan was delighted at how willing Fran was to jump everything after the lungeing and Kayla did a lovely job on Jake. The “minis” Makenna Henry & Gaby Rose were the next group to go. Leigh joined them on Alliance and helped them warm up. Makenna & Tootsie were so much more confident this year compared to last year! They jumped a handful of hopeful jumps independently. Gaby rode Sugar over most of the BN course and was able to gallop a few lines successfully. Alliance was a great team leader and schooled a variety of fences, it was a great first time back on the XC course for him. Mikayla Rebholz on Briar, Catherine Joy on Traveler and Maria Ernst on Camden made up our super solid training level group. All three horses & riders were so game and handled every challenge well, we even ended on a preliminary line. I took some time to school Seaport, owned by John Bramblet, and I was so pleased with how laid back he was. He jumped around easily and was a pleasure to train. At the end of the day we had Leigh on Revi, Kayla on Raisin and Gina Paolucci on Manolo. It was an interesting mix of riders and horses but the dynamics were great and it made for a good group!
Sunday was little more stream lined. I was able to take Airlington out and school a few jumps which was fun as it has been almost a year since I have ridden him XC! We tackled a few more challenges in each group and connected more fences together. We stepped it up for Mikayla & Alex and they did both the prelim & int table to corner lines. Their eyes got a little larger over the bigger table, but both girls nailed the distance and the line on the first attempt! Everyone stepped it up with connecting a few more fences together and tackling the coffins and a the bowl lines.
We had 4 eventing moms with us for the weekend and as usual they took good care of everything in between! Thanks Ellen Ahearn, Brenda Henry, Dawn Rebholz & Rebecca Duke! On Saturday we enjoyed delicious halibut lettuce wraps, prepared by Jan. We had a large group dinner at Fiesta on Saturday night. While I did purchase the “new” Catch Phrase”, we were all way to tired to play!
It was a busy weekend but so worth while! I had a great time teaching and learned a lot too! Looking forward to the 2013 eventing season & the next Tulip Springs clinic!
